Who is John Daly?
The John Daily Cocktail gets its name from American golfer John Daly who is known for his driving distance off the tee, mullet, and two major championship wins in the nineties in addition to the cocktail that shares his namesake. However, the drink existed before Daly’s rise to fame in the PGA Tour similar to how the combination of iced tea and lemonade existed prior to getting the Arnold Palmer moniker. The name’s origins are tied to Daly’s struggles in the mid-nineties and while it likely started out as a joke among golfers it eventually the replaced “adult Arnold Palmer” or “dirty Arnold Palmer” as the name of this particular spiked iced tea combination.

While a John Daly cocktail is traditionally made with vodka you can substitute it for a variety of other alcoholic drinks if you so choose. Rum is another popular alcoholic addition to spiked ice teas and goes well with most black teas, as its natural sweetness pairs well with black tea’s bitterness. Whiskey, gin, and bourbon are also suitable substitutes.
In addition to the variety of alcohol you can use to make a refreshing John Daly cocktail, Revolution Tea offers an array of Black Teas to choose from. You can find both whole and loose leaf teas that are not only delicious but can benefit your health and wellbeing thanks to their numerous antioxidants.
